Opening new doors with persons deprived of liberty

Our approach gave each individual we talked to space to tell their stories and express their thoughts and feelings freely through interviews with PDLs, ex-PDLs, their families, HLAF staff, and psychologists. We then used these insights for our co-design session where participants brainstormed on possible activities, gathering not only possible ideas but criteria for the design intervention based on the participants' point of view. We decided to do two live training sessions—the first focused on soft skills and specifically how to speak to and interact with PDLs, the second on hard skills like how to facilitate the program modules and group discussions. Since we won't be able to consistently do live training sessions, we designed a training program that accommodates a self-paced learning approach through a series of training videos, accompanied by handouts and redesigned modules that were designed to be easily reproduced. The creative direction was developed around the concept of opening new doors to guide the overall look of materials and keep them visually consistent.
